I think 76F has been the maximum, but we always say our house is cold in the winter and cool in the summer. From the current forecast, it looks like getting dry wood is going to be the biggest challenge in the next few days.

One can often find some pretty cheap cookstoves on Craigslist. I saw one in the St. Louis area for $160. It wasn't in great shape, but it looked like it was still useable. In the pictures, the people who own it had put a small roof over it and were using it outside. ---Just an idea.

Be sure and let me know if you find one!Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01928066388810835369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2486194406227682414.post-60752698565964701632018-05-14T11:50:49.953-07:002018-05-14T11:50:49.953-07:00That would be nice having your summer kitchen clos...That would be nice having your summer kitchen close!
Thankyou for the tips. I’m hoping we can find another stove before too long.
How is it going using your stove in the house still? It’s been hot and humid here so I haven’t even tried lately!Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14481454983461125697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2486194406227682414.post-32589037217920289472018-05-08T15:53:59.367-07:002018-05-08T15:53:59.367-07:00You're welcome, Nancy!

It is located at the end of our driveway because we initially ran a weekend bakery out of it. Now that we bake for our local farmers' market instead, we use the house kitchen because our volume has increased hugely. My hope is to get it moved much closer to the house within the next month so that we can make much better use of it.

As far as advice goes, I would shoot for plenty of ventilation and high ceilings to keep it as cool as possible. Then, except for long cooking times, keep your fuel small in diameter and lightweight (cottonwood, maple, corn cobs, small sticks of any variety). This way, your stove will heat fast, but as soon as your cooking is finished, your stove can cool off quickly too, making the whole experience more comfortable.

It's been warm here too (mid-80s), but we are firing the cookstove daily still for both hot water and cooking. My goal is to keep it up until June 1st, which would be later than our record of not turning on the electric hot water heater until May 27th in 2014. We'll see if we make it!Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01928066388810835369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2486194406227682414.post-41432268474630557732018-05-07T16:34:14.269-07:002018-05-07T16:34:14.269-07:00Thankyou for the recipe! I don't plan to get another one!Carol Urbanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05348220970962273922noreply@blogger.com
